Felt lamps „Sherazade“ by Siba Sahabi

Sahabi's new collection of felt lamps „Sherazade“ is inspired by nighttime silhouettes of Middle Eastern rooftops. It is comprised of three lamps made of coiled coloured felt strips coated with a layer of paint on both sides. The work has been launched at Bijbels Museum in Amsterdam.

Siba Sahabi continues to research how one culture is influencing another, by renewing its tradition in the new context. As poetic designer passionate in craft, in the newest collection Sahabi was inspired by the famous female storyteller Sherazade – regarding the role this character had in the transformation of the female independency in Western society throughout the last three centuries.

The light series Sherazade is made of coiled coloured felt strips coated with a layer of paint on both sides. This way each object shows three colours: the original colour of the felt (surface of the ridges), the inside, and outside of the objects. The metallic paint increases the refection of the light.
