Chair meeting couch in a Roulade

Bjarke Ingels, Larsen & Jens Skibsted, design collective known as KiBiSi – have recently launched Roulade, skilfully bringing together the qualities of a basic high-density foam cut into a fixed shape reminiscent of a rolled up mattress, and upholstered in Kvadrat’s classic Hallingdal. Whilst oversized buttons bring up the impression of the traditional Chesterfield.

Designers have presented Roulade as a „meeting between generations and genres, a meeting between mattress and Chesterfield, chair and couch“.

Their work has resulted in a innovative expression of material use and creation of iconic and humorous character of a new plump 1,5 pax sofa, designed for laid back hangout.

This plump-looking roll is upholstered in Kvadrat’s classic Hallingdal, the super heavy-duty textile that launched this Danish company back in 1965. KiBiSi produced Roulade in collaboration with Versus, creating a friend to the Iconic Brick Sofa.

— Hallingdal was designed by Nanna Ditzel in 1965. Since when it has become as famous for its durability as for its rich colour palette. Today more than forty-five years later it remains one of Kvadrat’s best-selling products and has earned its place as a design classic.
