„Common Sense & Sensibility“ opens at Belgrade Design Week 2012
The Croatian premiere of the exhibition will take place at the Forum Gallery in Zagreb (27 June – 06 July 2012). It will introduce Croatian design to tourists, for the first time, from 14 July – 15 August at the Gallery Loggia of the city of Hvar, a significant Renaissance building in Dalmatia. The city of Hvar is one of the main Croatian destinations for visitors from Northwestern Europe. In 2012 Lonely Planet rated Hvar among the top 5 destinations in the world.
Common Sense & Sensibility presents prototypes that have (finally) matured into products in recently opened designer workshops and their market integration, the first implementation of design in product development within the furniture industry and Croatian tourism, enriched by the first design hotel and design hostel. The exhibition features about 40 selected products by 14 Croatian design brands. This project traces the development of a production culture in this young European country, devastated during the painful post-Communist transition in the 90s. It highlights the beginning of a design culture in contemporary Croatia. The curator of the exhibition is Tatjana Bartaković, editor in chief of DesignAgenda.
