One-in-six people in the world lack safe drinking water. For those in coastline areas where the salt water is abundant – Italian designer Gabriele Diamanti created eco-distiller that runs on solar power providing drinking (bacteria-free) water.
During the London Design Festival, Flos launched Tatou – a new collection of lamps by Patricia Urquiola at its showroom in Clerkenwell. Classic antique Japanese armour was an inspiration for Tatou’s design – its resistance, strength, but also dynamism, lightness and flexibility.
Bjarke Ingels, Larsen & Jens Skibsted, design collective known as KiBiSi – have recently launched Roulade, skilfully bringing together the qualities of a basic high-density foam cut into a fixed shape reminiscent of a rolled up mattress, and upholstered in Kvadrat’s classic Hallingdal. Whilst oversized buttons bring up the impression of the traditional Chesterfield.

Besides many exciting events that increase in number every year during London Design Festival, The Tramshed was declared by many as the best show of London Design Week 2011. This year is returning to a new location within Design Junction.
Croatian Everyday and Croatian Holiday are the two initiatives through which Croatian designers were presented for the first time at the Paris Design Week. They explore the differences and converging points of designing for improvement and designing for pleasure.
This September the London Design Festival is celebrating its tenth year and Design Junction will be its premier destination. Design Junctions is hosting Tramshed, Midcentury Modern and The Crafts Council – with a powerful line-up of world renowned brands and creative enterprises housed in London’s largest non-purpose built event space. From 14 until 23 September, the LDF will feature hundreds of events that will take place across London.
“September will be the busiest and most international month of the whole of WDC Capital Helsinki 2012. Such an explosion of design has never before been seen in Finland. Participating in the event is easy since most of the events are open for everyone,” says Pekka Timonen, Executive Director of WDC Helsinki 2012.
Famed British architect David Chipperfield, curator of The 13th edition of the Venice Architecture Biennale, challenged the exhibitors to explore the Common Ground in the architecture, provoking them to showcase a portrait of the collaborations and affinities behind it.
Facebook has announced its new plan to build an expansion of its Menlo Park campus. The whole new campus is designed by the architect Frank Gehry that will closely work with Facebook environmental design manager Everett Katigbak to produce a green vision of a campus expansion.
